Everyone wants a summer holiday, but have you ever considered waiting just a little longer until the peak season was over? You can still fulfil your travelling needs without the seasonal crowds. You may also appreciate the slight drop in temperature keeping the stifling heat at bay.
What is off-peak season?
In yachting, peak seasons refer to the times of year where demand for yacht charters is at its highest. These peak seasons vary across the world. Oppositely, off-peak season refers to the time outside of these high season periods. In the Mediterranean for example, peak season is between July and August, therefore charter rates are at their highest. From May to June and September to October, rates are considered ‘off-peak season’ rates. Oppositely, in the Caribbean, the high season is during Thanksgiving and then at Christmas and New Year. All other months are considered off-peak season.
Why charter off-season?
Chartering off-season comes with many benefits, explore these advantages below.
During peak season, it is highly unlikely that you are able to book a popular yacht unless you have booked months in advance. Chartering off-peak vastly increases your selection, therefore you have more chances to book the most suitable yacht for your needs.
Having an emptier calendar means many yachts reduce their rates. This reduction is usually around 15 to 20%. If you’re lucky some even reduce their rates to over 50%! The further out of peak season you are the higher the discounted rate – that is usually the way this works.
When yachts have emptier calendars, there is a higher possibility of negotiating the charter rates too.
As yachts become less booked, so do ports. Meaning, that you get to book the perfect berth in the port of your choice! This also comes at a reduced rate, and despite missing the summer events, there will still be plenty to do.
With families going back to school and work, events coming to an end and peak heat slowly cooling off there are far fewer tourists around. You can enjoy quieter streets, more available restaurants and more peaceful days on the beach!
A memorable family holiday:
Despite, the off-season beginning when schools and universities start again in September, there still is a chance for you and your family to enjoy this season! Most of the UK school holidays are during this time. For example, the Autumn break in October coincides with both the Mediterranean and Caribbean off-peak season. This is also the case for the February, Easter and May breaks. Make the most of it and enjoy an off-peak season charter holiday with your family.
The temperatures can arguably be more pleasant during off-peak months. You still get the sunshine and the warmth, but it is usually far less unbearable!
